FAQ
Everything worth knowing, in as few words as possible.
Getting started
What is Openbands?
A social community network where every member proved they're a real human. You can open or join a Band about your interest and connect with other humans, not bots.
What are Bands?
Communities for a topic, a country, a company, a school, a team. Each one decides what you have to verify to get in.
How do I sign up?
Open the app and create an account with a passkey. Your device's fingerprint or face unlocks it. No password, no email.
Is it free?
Yes. Signing up, verifying and posting are all free.
Do I need crypto to use it?
No. There is nothing to buy, fund or top up.
Do I need a web3 wallet?
You get one, but you never have to think about it. A web3 wallet is not an account on someone's server. It is a pair of keys: a public one that is your address, and a private one that proves the address is yours. Nothing is held by a company that could freeze or close it. Openbands creates yours in the background and your passkey unlocks it, so there is no seed phrase to write down, nothing to fund and no transaction to approve.
How long does it take to get in?
A couple of seconds. Sign up, verify one thing about yourself, join your first Band.
Can I look around before signing up?
Yes. Recent posts from the most active Bands are public. You need an account to post, vote or join.
Anonymity and privacy
Will people see my real name?
No. You get an pseudonymous handle. You can set a username and avatar, but nothing is linked to your legal identity.
So how do you know I'm real?
You prove one specific fact about yourself, like that you're a living person or that you work somewhere. The zero-knowledge proof carries that one fact and nothing else.
What is a zero-knowledge proof?
A way to prove something is true without showing the thing itself. Think of proving you're over 18 to a bouncer without handing over your ID: they learn the answer, not your birthday, name or address. That is what happens here. Your passport, your work email and your face never leave your device. What leaves is a small piece of maths that anyone can check, and that reveals only the single fact you agreed to share.
Does Openbands see my email address?
No. For company verification, your Google login and email stay on your device. Only the domain becomes public, for example @openbands.xyz.
Does Openbands see my face?
No. Selfie Check happens inside World App. We receive a proof, never an image and never any biometric data.
Does Openbands see my passport?
No. Nationality and age checks happen in the Self app. We receive your nationality, or a yes to "over 18", and nothing else.
What do you actually store about me?
Your anonymous handle, your badges, your posts and votes, and a one-way marker per verification that stops the same credential being reused on a second account.
Can you link my posts to my identity?
We keep no record connecting your posts to your name, your email or your face. There is nothing stored that would reveal which posts are yours.
Can my employer find my posts?
Your company Band shows your domain, not you. Your employer sees the same anonymous handle as everyone else.
Can other members see what I verified?
They see your badges, for example a company domain or a country. They never see the underlying document, email or image.
Do you track me?
We measure product usage against your anonymous handle only, never your wallet address, and we do not record your screen.
Can I delete my posts?
Yes. You can delete your own posts and comments at any time.
Can I delete my account?
Contact us and we will remove your profile and content. Verification markers stay, since removing them would let the same credential open a second account.
Verification and badges
What is a badge?
Proof of one fact about you. You collect the ones that apply and they unlock Bands.
Which badges exist?
Six. Proof of Human, Selfie Check, Company Email, Nationality, Age 18+, and Network School.
How many do I need?
One is enough to start. Each extra badge opens more Bands.
Proof of Human
Verify at a World ID Orb, then add the badge from your profile. The strongest signal available.
Selfie Check
A quick liveness selfie inside World App. Fastest way in. Each face can verify only one account.
Company Email
Sign in with your work Google account. The check runs on your device. Only your company domain becomes public.
Nationality
Scan your passport or ID in the Self app. Only your nationality is shared.
Age 18+
Same scan as nationality, but it shares only that you are over 18. Your birthday is never revealed.
Network School
Upload your Network School acceptance email. It is read on your device and never uploaded.
How long does verification take?
Selfie Check is seconds. Company Email takes ten to twenty seconds while the proof is built. Passport scans depend on the Self app.
Can I verify more than one company?
One company domain at a time. Verifying again replaces the old one.
Do badges expire?
No. Once a badge is on your profile it stays. Re-verifying refreshes it.
Can I remove a badge?
Badges are permanent once added. Choose what you verify with that in mind.
Why does Company Email only work on the web?
Google sign-in cannot run inside the World App browser. Use app.openbands.xyz on the web for that badge.
Bands
How do I join a Band?
Open it and tap join. If you already hold the badge it needs, you're in immediately.
Why can't I join a Band?
It requires a badge you don't have yet. The Band page names which one.
Can I create a Band?
Yes. Pick a topic, choose who gets in, name it, done.
Who can get into a Band I create?
Your choice. Anyone verified as human, people from specific countries, your company only, adults only, or Network School members.
What happens in a Band?
Posts, comments, upvotes, downvotes, polls, mentions. Sorted by trending or newest.
Can I leave a Band?
Yes, any time. Rejoining is instant while you still hold the badge.
Do private Bands exist?
Not for now. Posts are visible to everyone. Only members can post, comment and upvote.
Faith Score
What is Faith Score?
Your reputation. It grows when you contribute and when others find your contributions valuable. It shrinks when people downvote you.
How do I earn Faith?
Give other members something worth reading. Posts and comments that people find useful get upvoted, and upvotes are what move your Faith.
Why did my post earn nothing?
Faith follows value, not volume. A post that gives other members nothing to engage with earns nothing, by design.
Can Faith go down?
Yes. Downvotes on your content reduce it.
What are levels?
Faith milestones, up to level 99. Your level shows on your profile.
What is Top Contributor?
A distinction for members who have earned enough Faith. Your name turns gold across the app. We don't publish the threshold.
Is there a leaderboard?
Two. All-time, and a weekly board that resets every Monday.
Can I buy or transfer Faith?
No. It is earned only, and it stays with your account.
Campaigns and prizes
What are Campaigns?
Real prizes for real members, run inside a Band. Open the Campaigns tab to see what is live right now.
How do I enter?
Join the Band the campaign runs in and take part in the conversation.
How are winners picked?
A random draw weighted by Faith Score. More genuine contribution, better odds.
Can I enter twice?
No. One entry per person, enforced by verification.
Do I have to pay to enter?
No. Campaigns are free.
Safety
How do you stop bots?
Every account is tied to a human verification. No verification, no posting.
What about spam and abuse?
Content is screened automatically, members can report posts and comments, and repeat offenders are removed.
Can I report someone?
Yes. Every post and comment has a report option.
What gets you banned?
Spam, harassment, hateful content, and gaming Faith or campaigns.
Platform
Where can I use it?
On the web at app.openbands.xyz, and as a mini app inside World App.
What is the World App mini app?
The same Openbands, running inside World App instead of a browser tab. Handy if you verify with World ID, since the check happens in the app you are already in.
Is there an iOS or Android app?
Not yet. The web app works on any phone and can be added to your home screen.
What languages do you support?
Seven. English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean.
About
Why does Openbands exist?
Because we remember the internet as a magical place. Friendships formed there. Real conversations happened there. That magic is disappearing fast. It started with online games flooded with bots, and now the same thing is happening across social networks. It takes the fun out of it. Openbands is our answer: a place where everyone proved they're a real human.
